Lucy’s Update
Welcome to our Autumn edition 2024
I wanted to bring you an update on all our Alpha Vesta activity and share some news about the projects that are now live!
J9 Initiative:
Our J9 training funded by SETDAB and PFCC for Essex is building momentum and we are so pleased at the positive response and uptake. We continue to provide three online public sessions per month which are open to all and can be booked here. We have also received an additional small budget to deliver some private J9 sessions for those organisations with a larger workforce that may wish to capture as many staff as possible in one session to create their Safe Space. The more awareness and understanding we are able to build around domestic abuse, the more we have the potential to reach people earlier in their journey.
We recently met with Changing Lives and Palmers Law at their South Woodham Ferrers office, who are now onboard as J9 Safe Spaces. If you would like support to create your J9 Essex Safe Space, please do reach out to us to discuss this further.
‘The Voice of Young People’ Project
Our Essex Community Foundation funded project will launch later this month led by our Youth Ambassadors and hosted by our Community Advocates, The Lounge in Ingatestone. We would be interested to connect with anyone working with an existing group for young adults that may have some attendees keen to join us for some evenings of fun, food and discussion. Contact us via email here.
Public Online Training
Fully Funded
We are very grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for the their continued support to enable us to remove the cost barrier to learning more about this social and economic issue. We have updated our Training & Consultancy Catalogue to showcase our offering. We are always keen to speak to anyone looking to engage, educate and empower their organisation to break the cycle of domestic abuse, so please contact us to arrange a 30 minute free consultation if you are looking for private or bespoke session.
New!
Turning the Tide partnering with DWP
At Alpha Vesta, we are incredibly passionate about raising awareness of domestic abuse’s impact on both the workplace and employment. Our Core 3 training session: The Impact of Domestic Abuse on the Workplace & Employment looks at this in detail, helping employers from both the public and private sector to build their understanding of what this means and what this looks like.
Fundamental to our approach at Alpha Vesta lies in building a network of lived experience from those impacted by domestic abuse. This may have led to some never working or maybe becoming unemployed due to their experiences and never worked since.
Employment is vital in building independence, confidence and self-esteem post-abuse and we are delighted to launch, in our third year of partnering with The Department of Work and Pensions, our ‘ Turning the Tide Programme’.
The programme is for those that have found their employment or ability to work impacted by domestic abuse stemming from either their childhood or adulthood. The programme supports clients through learning modules and peer mentoring, working with our experienced Caseworkers to understand their experience and rebuild in order to move forward with their lives.
The Turning the Tide programme is fully-funded in Essex for clients in receipt of a working age benefit and those eligible for flexible support funding. However, we can also offer this programme as a commissioned service to organisations looking to embed an innovative response to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse and supporting clients or employees to return to work or move closer to the labour market.
Please note that the programme is not suitable for clients currently still experiencing domestic abuse, but provides support post-abuse once statutory and commissioned domestic abuse services are no longer required. That’s where our work begins in order to recover and rebuild!
To find out more about the programme, please contact the team at mail.
